I have always loved Anne of Green Gables so, while on a vacation to Prince Edward Island last month, I purchased the first 3 selected journals and could not put them down once I started them. LMM's life was so incredible! A fascinating look at the life and times of this wonderful woman.

Although the famous author's last years brought her much sorrow and depression, she continued to depict the world as it once more became plunged into yet another world war. In her famous journals, she described movies she saw, including GWTW, air conditioning, and the frustration involved with generational gaps. It is a must read for those who followed the previous books.
These journals, are beautifully put together. I remember when I found the first one and then each suceeding volume. I knew this one was coming. I even called the author at Guelph University to ask her how much longer I would have to wait.

She said then that they had to wait for some of the people in the journals to die before they could publish them. I would guess Dr. Stuart Macdonald was one of them.

They thrill me and make me feel closer to thise amazing woman. I've read everything she's written now. The sad thing is that once this volume is finished there is nothing new to read.

My greatests thanks to L. M. Montgomery and to Drs. Rubio and Waterson for their great work.
IF YOU LOVE THE OTHER DIARIES YOU WILL ENJOY READING ABOUT HER FINAL DAYS. I ENJOYED ALL OF THE OTHER DIARIES BUT THIS ONE IS THE SADDEST. SHE HAS HER GOOD DAYS AND BAD, BUT SADLY SHE STOPPED WRITING IN THE LAST YEARS WHEN LIFE BECAME SO UNBEARABLE THAT SHE COUDLN'T EVEN WRITE ABOUT IT SO THIS DIARY IS INCOMPLETE. YOU WILL LOVE SEEING INSIDE THE LIFE AND MIND OF AN AUTHOR WHO ACHIEVED SUCCESS IN HER OWN LIFETIME AND LIVED TO WRITE ABOUT HER PERSONAL LIFE FROM CHILDHOOD TO HER LAST DAYS. THIS DIARY IS HER LAST, BUT LUCY MAUD MONTGOMERY WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE ON IN HER WRITINGS. HER DIARY WAS A WAY TO SHARE HER INNERMOST THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS THAT SHE COULDN'T SHARE IN HER NOVELS. YOU TOO WILL FEEL LIKE A KINDRED SPIRIT.
I really loved this series. Such a sad and mysterious end for L. M. Montgomery. This volume focuses on her troubles with Chester, her disappointment with both of her boy, mental health issues and a fallout with her housekeeper.
The volume is a must for those wanting to follow this author through her own personal life journey of all five volumes. The book is now out of print so finding one took well over a year and finding it in hardback and excellent condition was a challenge. Lucy Maude wrote The Anne of Green Gables books as well as many others which are of excellent quality. They far exceed much of the drivel available and hyped up in the more modern books for young people. These journals clearly tell her own journey and point out the quality of L.M. Montgomery as a person who was able to create excellent literature and timeless stories even though she experienced hard work, intense physical and emotional pain. I recommend making the effort to find and read the entire series of this multi-volume life journal.
I grew up reading Anne of Green Gables, but it was years before I realized that the Anne books' author, L.M. Montgomery, had also written a number of other books - some of which are even better than Anne of Green Gables (e.g. Rilla of Ingleside, the Emily books). Still, it was not until I accidentally came across Volume I of her journals that I realized what a complex and interesting person L.M. Montgomery herself was. Her journals are poetry, history, psychology and drama in a vivid, personal format. L.M. Montgomery, or Maud as she was called by friends, lives again as you read through the raw (in truth) and refined (in diction) journal entries. As a snapshot of the dynamic time she lived in, a sketch of one writer's genius or a "backstage" look at the events that inspired her novels, each of L.M. Montgomery's journals are not only well worth the read - they will keep you riveted to the last page.
