Jason is an omega wolf, now 19 and tired of being on the run. Because of who he is and how cruel his past alpha was, he's endured hardship for six years. His mother was killed. His father is with him but as it is they live a hand to mouth existence, always fearful, looking over their shoulders. It all comes to a head when Jason has had enough. He wants a choice and decides on a pack that is prosperous enough, he just hopes he can make a deal.Mac is a strong alpha, head of security for the pack. He and Jason hit it off but to their understanding, Jason is not for him. Yet they develop a friendship and one of trust. Jason is feeling safe until his old pack comes knocking.
Mating the Omega is a step above the other alpha and omega stories. It is well thought out and has an interesting take on human / wolf relations. Pack law comes into play and of all things it isn't settled by shifter court. No, it is taken to the humans.
There were a few questions I had which may be addressed in the follow up story. Jason didn't know he had powers. Those around him knew but didn't tell him. So as a reader I'm guessing what they are and if it's more than calming others and being able to ignore an alpha's power of suggestion. Was it an ability to grow plants? And if true omegas was researched, why isn't Jason informed? Shouldn't he be learning who he is as well as what he can do?
Another problem I had was that last scene with Orvin, Jason's old alpha. Orvin was only distracted by Jason's fighting back. Orvin wasn't incapacitated, laying on the ground and dying. Oh no, Orvin was able to get up and go after Jason . . And yet he didn't. There's no conclusion on what happened. Duke and Abel were there with Mac and no mention of Orvin. Since the plot was based around Orvin and his henchmen you'd think there would be conclusion on what happened to the guy. And if it was Jason casting his omega powers in a 'I hope he doesn't find me' and his wish came true. .. Then that should be said. But it's not. So I'm left guessing. . . . I mean if Mac could shift and scent Jason to track Jason down, then why didn't Orvin?
Ditto what another reviewer said: What's the difference between a regular omega and a true one? I read a lot of shifter stories and even I couldn't tell the difference. If a true omega has powers then they should be detailed. If that's the only difference between a true and regular omega - Besides having more heats during the year - Then say so. Is Bram a 'regular' omega?
There were a few gaps in the story's world building. I wondered more about the pack set up and technology -- I wasn't sure exactly what Alpha Abel was making or what contracts he had. Obviously the pack area had solar use. Did Alpha Abel work for a human company? Or was he working with wolves? How did he get his pack to the financial stability they have?
Yes this story involves mpreg and that happens for a good portion of the story. It was a good read, interesting, not gripping, just a nice even read if you're into shifters and the alpha and omega trope. - Dan's Wife

Warning Possible Spoilers
The Mercy Hill Pack is a wealthy community of werewolves, and the Montana Border are a somewhat poor group set in their old ways, living mostly off of government funding. Our main character is a True Omega by the name Jason (which is rarely mentioned by name) who ran away at the age of thirteen with the fear of being mated so young. His mother was killed trying to protect him when he was about 16-17, and the book takes place with him now at the age of 19.
Finally, after years of being on the run, and after an attack on his father, Jason has had enough living from shabby motel to shabby motel. Wanting to call it quits, but on his terms, he investigates local packs as him and his father hop from city to city, until he accidentally is caught breaking into Mercy Hills. But luck has finally found Jason, and Mercy Hills is everything he never thought he was worthy of. There's a strong Alpha, Abel, who though realizes Jason is an Omega for him, befits his head of security Mac. Together they give Jason and his father new hope with a home, jobs, and later legal standing within their pack.
The first half of the book deals with Jason and his father on the run, surviving and trying to out maneuver the Montana Border enforcers, the middle is Jason and Mac realizing they are perfect for each other, and the book concludes with Jason legally allowed to stay with the Mercy Hills pack and Mac, along with their new child. I found the laws interesting, the court system different from other books, and the idea of there being regular Omegas and then True Omegas intriguing. A disappointment with the story only really laid with the fact it never was shown what powers the Montana Border guessed or knew about that Jason was suppose to have, there were only hints, and talk about digging into old histories. But the powers of a True Omega and the value found on having one still never was addressed or shown. Jason himself never displayed these powers, except as I stated as a hint of them. So that mystery left me hanging, and I can only hope it's something brought up again.
Lately, I’ve been really into the mpreg universe. I had read lots of books of this genre and there are a few that stayed with me as this one did.
Jason, the protagonist, is a really smart omega. He had terrible teenage years, but that only made him stronger, more confident, and brave. Mac, on the other hand, is a typical Alpha, however, it doesn’t diminish the impact of the story, the opposite happens, the dynamic of the couple gets better because of that.
They live in a world where omegas are treated as less than everyone else, where they are considered dumb and are only seen as wombs. We see them fighting for their love and against the system that has been imposed by society. In the surface, this seems as another mpreg story, but it goes deeper than that.
We meet several secondary characters that are equally charming and who enrich the story. This is a must read for any mpreg fan. You will not regret it.
